A thermometer is an instrument to measure temperature. Temperature measurement is used in a wide range of activities in the field of medicine and scientific experiments. It was invented by an Italian Physicist, Galileo in 1592. Ancient clinical thermometers were built in the shape of a frog. These were tied to the wrist of the patient. There were small spherical balls inside, suspended in a liquid. Each ball had slightly different density. The number of balls that sank corresponded to the temperature of the patient.
